History Of Competitive Training at Minoggie Kennels
In the early 1990’s, Minoggie Kennels began entering dogs in the AKC Hunting Retriever tests. In that time, Doug Shade has earned Master Hunter titles on over 75 dogs and has qualified over 100 times at the Master National. Of these dogs, 22 have earned the prestigious honor of being inducted into the Master National Hall of Fame.
Our Program
Our Hunt Test training program is very intensive and is recommended for those owners who are serious about competing in AKC hunt tests and who are looking for top flight gun dogs. This program requires a great deal of time and is not recommended for the occasional hunter.
With this program your dog will be trained to mark the fall of multiple birds. He/she will also be trained to respond to hand signals, whistle blows and voice commands. Your dog will be able to make blind retrieves by following commands that lead the dog to “dead birds” or birds the dog did not see go down.
Junior Stake
Not sure you want to train your dog to compete in a Master National but you would like to do something outside of hunting season? Running your dog in the Junior stake, which require only marked retrieves, might just be the ticket. We are fortunate to attend 5 tests right here on Sauvie Island every summer. This is also a great venue to get kids involved in handling a dog. Contact us for more information.
